Overview

Instead of compressed air, an electromagnetic generator accelerates the projectile in the handpiece. Zimmer's Softshot design uses a projectile five times heavier than in air-compressor systems, at a lower final velocity, which Zimmer presents as more comfortable for patients. Pulse energy runs from 60 to 185 mJ in 10 mJ steps, at 1 to 22 Hz.

The enPuls 2.0 weighs 6 lb without its handpiece and has a 7-inch touchscreen; the enPuls Pro has a 12-inch screen, runs two handpieces and adds a visual analogue pain scale. Both are sold in the US by Zimmer MedizinSystems, which guarantees each handpiece for 2 million pulses.
